Academic Reserves

For Academic Libraries the Academic Reserves search link is used to view the three main components associated with Reserves: Departments, Courses, and related Instructors.  Clicking Academic Reserves opens the search form displaying  the Academic Reserves search options along with the Advanced Search tab.  Use the Academic Reserves form to narrow your search to the specific information you need for reserved materials: what courses are offered, what items are required, the availability of the item, and the instructor associated with the reserve.

Note:  If your library is using Academic Reserves and Reading Level Integration you will see a More Search Options link instead of an Advanced Search link and an Academic Reserves link.  Clicking the More Search Options link will open the form to display all three options: Advanced Search, Reading Levels, and Academic Reserves.

Start Your Search

  1. From the Search bar click Academic Reserves.

  1. The Academic Reserves search form opens, as shown below.

  1. If you want to see what items are available at a specific location, click the change link (next to Searching all locations) for a list of locations, and then select the check box(es) for the locations you want to search.

  1. Under Departments, click the down arrow to display the options for the available departments.  Highlight a specific Department if you want to view the associated courses for the selected department.  You can only select one department at a time.

  1. Under Courses, click the down arrow to display the courses related to the department previously selected.  Highlight a Course if you want to view the associated instructors for the selected course.  You can only select one course at a time

  2. Under Instructors, click the down arrow to display the instructors for the selected department and course.  Highlight an Instructor if you want to view the materials pertaining to your selected fields.  You can only select one instructor at a time

  3. Click View Reserves and your search results display the related items for all locations, or the selected location(s) if you made a change, as discussed in Step 3.

Search All Reserves

To search all reserves, leave Any showing in the Departments, Courses, and Instructors fields, and then click View All Reserves.  The search results will display all of the items placed on reserve.

Search Results

Once you have made your reserves selections, your search results will indicate how many items are associated with your selected criteria.  The total number is found under Academic Reserves on the left side of the search results, under the Library Catalog and/or Magazine Articles, etc.

You can also refine your search fields using the down arrows under Departments, Courses, and Instructors found on the left side of the search results.  Refer to the example below.

Notice each search result displays the Department, Course, and Instructor, when applicable. Use the Sort By drop-down to adjust the search results by Title or Author.

Use the Add to List button to create a list of items.  You can print the list under Saved Lists in your account.  If your library has enabled the Share This! link, found under Saved Lists, you can email your lists to other students.

TIP:  Some reserved items can only be checked out for a limited time frame.  For some items there may be multiple copies which may not be on reserve.  Click Show Additional Copies or click All Copies under Details to see if extra copies are available in the library.
