Are you tired of not knowing when a popular book is returned? Simply place an item on request. Depending on your library's setup, this option may not be available at this time or the Request button might only be displayed if the item is currently checked out. Therefore, you would not be allowed to place a request for available items located on the shelf, as shown in the example below.

By placing your mouse over not available, a pop-up provides the status of the item. If the title has more than ten copies, only the first ten will display. Some of the various status pop-ups you might come across are the following: In Transit, Checked Out, Overdue, On Request, In Processing, Lost, Missing, etc. An example of the pop-up is shown below.

Do you want to know when an item is due back? From the Details page, you can see the due date from the current borrower as to when the item should be expected back into the library. The due date will only display for those items with a Checked Out or Overdue status. Examples are shown below.

Where can you place a request? Requests can be placed at the following locations: Titles page, Browse Genre page, Details page, Display Case, or My Lists. Each of these options are discussed below. Note: Depending on your library's setup, Hold might display instead of Request, but either way the meaning is the same.
Titles page: After you perform a search, in the individual search results, regardless if your results are displayed in the grid or list view you can place a request, as shown in the example below.

Browse Genre page: Place your mouse over a book jacket. A pop-up window displays, as shown in the example below. Click Request to place your request.

Details page: Whenever you click a book jacket, you are redirected to the Details page. On the Description tab, the Request button displays under the book jacket and on the Copies tab, it can be found in the upper-right corner, as shown in the examples below.

Display Case: Place your mouse over a book jacket. A pop-up window displays, as shown in the example below. Click Request to place your request.

Once you click Request from any of the areas previously discussed, a Place a Request dialog box displays, as shown in the example below.

If you have not logged on to the system, a log on dialog box prompts for your credentials. Type your Library ID/PIN or User Name/Password credentials. If you forgot your credentials or for more information on how to access your account, see Log On. If you do not have an account, see your librarian in order to set one up.
Determine the location where you want to use to pick up the requested item. Click the Pickup Location drop-down list if necessary, as shown below.

After you have made your location selection, you have the following options:
I want the first available copy: This option allows you to receive whatever copy is returned to the library.
I want a specific copy: This option allows you to request a specific copy from a selected location and call number. If you select this option, the table becomes enabled. Select the check box under the Request heading for the specific copy you want to request: A check mark displays. You can select more than one check box.
Note: Depending on your library's setup, only one option may be available and will display accordingly.
After you have made your selection from the first available copy or specific copy option, click Submit Request, as shown below.

Regardless of which option you choose, a message displays advising whether your request was placed successfully. All successful requests are now located under Requests in My Account. When the status states Arrived in the middle column, the item is ready for pickup at the location specified.
If you are denied approval for some or all requests, a message displays advising which items are unsuccessful. By hovering over the blue question mark, a pop-up displays advising why that item cannot be placed on request. Some reasons why you might be denied:
You have reached the maximum number of allowed requests.
You have outstanding fines.
You already have the item on request or checked out.
Your library might have rules where you cannot place a request on a certain item status. For example, lost, missing, in transit, checked in, etc.
Your library discarded the item.
You cannot request reference materials.
Check with your librarian if you require further assistance.
For information on how to view your items on request, see View Items on Request. If you would like to request several items at once, see Place Multiple Items on Request.
As mentioned above, you can also place requests from My Lists, however, the procedure is a little different than the others. When you click My Lists, select the heading title of your saved list shown on the right pane of the drawer. Select the check box(es) for the items you want to place a request. Tip! To select all of the items in your list at once, click the check box located to the right of Request Selected. Next, click the Request Selected button. A dialog box appears with a drop-down list to allow you to select the location as to where you want to pick up the items once they arrive. After you have selected your location, click the Request button located underneath the drop-down list, as shown in the example below. For information on how to save items to a list, see Save Lists.

A message displays advising your requests were placed successfully. All successful requests are now located under Requests in My Account. For information on how to view your items on request, see View Items on Request. If you cannot place a request on all the items, a message appears advising so.
WARNING! Please remember to log off once you are finished with your current session by selecting Log Off. Failure to log off could allow other borrowers to access your personal information. After a certain amount of time with no mouse activity, you are automatically logged off. However, protect your identity by logging off. |
